Sitting stability practice

Como fazer esta atividade

Support your child in practicing sitting independently if they're working on this skill. Surround them with soft cushions for safety and stay very close. Let them experience brief wobbles and catches, which are natural parts of learning balance. Be ready to provide support if needed, but allow them to make small corrections on their own when safe to do so.

Por que funciona

Learning to sit involves repeated experiences of losing and regaining balance, providing natural resilience-building through motor development. Each wobble and recovery teaches your child that they can overcome physical challenges and regain stability. Research demonstrates that movement-based learning supports cognitive and emotional development, with resilience being strengthened through supportive relationships during manageable challenges (Castro-Olivo et al., 2022). Your nearby presence provides security while the physical challenge builds confidence in their ability to recover from setbacks.

Dicas para os pais

Create a safe space with soft surfaces so minor wobbles don't result in hard falls. Stay close enough to catch them if needed, but far enough to let them work on their own balance.
