When your child has a tantrum or meltdown, stay nearby and keep your body and voice calm. You don't need to fix it or explain much. Just be a calm, safe presence. Your regulation teaches them what calm looks like during big emotions. This is powerful modeling of conflict management.

Como fazer esta atividade

Por que funciona
Toddlers have limited self-regulation abilities and need to borrow yours. When you stay calm during their dysregulation, you're providing a template for managing strong emotions during conflicts. This co-regulation is essential for developing self-regulation later. Research shows that staying regulated during a child's dysregulation is foundational to conflict resolution skills. Adults who effectively manage disagreements report 45% lower stress levels, and these patterns begin with parental modeling in early childhood (Laursen & Collins, 2009). Children learn conflict resolution primarily by watching parents and through coaching.
Dicas para os pais
Take deep breaths yourself. Your child can sense your emotional state, so regulating yourself is the first step.
If you feel frustrated, it's okay to say 'I need a moment' and step away briefly if your child is safe.
